Skin Resurfacing, Rejuvenation and Tightening
Our practitioners have collectively performed thousands of Fully Ablative and Fractional Co2 DOT Laser treatments on face, neck and body areas and across skin types.
Ageing, sun, acne and busy lifestyles are not kind to our skin. The natural regeneration of skin cells and collagen slows down causing wrinkles, pigmentation, age-bumps and a decline in youthful plumpness and glow. Whilst sunscreen and moderation helps, no creams or peels can improve the long-term quality of your skin… you need something MUCH stronger for that!

Results
After Co2 Laser treatment, skin tightening and clarity are often observed immediately following recovery, but the full results take up to 6 months with the remodelling of new collagen and continues for up to one year.
In many cases, noticeable improvement in complexion is achieved with a single session. However, mature skins and patients with wrinkles, skin laxity or acne scars will require a series of treatments spaced at least one month apart. This will be explained during consultation.
The growth of fresh new skin plus the regeneration of healthy collagen results in a smoothing of fine lines, plumping of scar tissue and the clearing of pigment, providing a more youthful and fresher complexion.
To maintain your good results, it is possible to have a refresher Co2 DOT treatment every year or so. Other things you can do to extend your skin rejuvenation include:
- Follow the recommended post-treatment care precisely
- Wear sunscreen daily and avoid direct sunlight for extended periods
- Adopt a daily skin regime appropriate for your skin type and condition
- Eat a healthy diet
- Stop smoking and moderate alcohol consumption
DOT Laser is ideal to combine with PRP for a super collagen boost or to prepare skin elasticity for a Thread Lift procedure.
Overview
Co2 Laser explained
The procedure delivers heat via thousands of tiny microbeams or DOTs that penetrate into the skin and trigger a natural healing process that forms new healthy collagen. By delivering the laser energy in fractionated DOTs surrounded by unaffected skin, rather than to the whole skin surface, the treatment is less intense and healing is much more rapid than traditional laser resurfacing. However, it may require multiple treatments for desired results, depending upon the intensity of each treatment.
The Fractionated Co2 DOT Laser technology enables accurate selection of all the operating parameters, modulating treatments in line with the characteristics of the patient and the target tissues. Your procedure will be customised to your skin type and condition to obtain the best results for you. Adjustments can be made throughout the procedure to more accurately treat specific areas such as acne scars on the cheeks, fine lines around the mouth and even sebaceous spots and bumps.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What will my Co2 Laser experience be like?
Consultation:
Co2 Laser is an advanced cosmetic procedure, so a consultation is essential to understand your desired outcomes and assess your suitability. If your skin is deemed unsuitable for fractional laser, alternative treatment options will be recommended to you.
Pre-treatment preparation:
You may be prescribed a topical retinoic acid or pigment inhibiting cream to prepare your skin pre-treatment. Co2 Laser stimulates your skin tissue, so if you’re prone to cold sores, anti-viral medication can be prescribed for pre and post care to prevent breakouts.
Treatment:
Numbing cream is applied prior to the Co2 Laser resurfacing treatment commencing, with other methods of pain relief available upon request under doctor supervision. Cold-packs will be used post treatment to help dissipate the heat and provide comfort.
The procedure is performed in our clinic, and takes between 30 minutes and 1.5 hour, depending on the area and skin condition being treated.
Post-Treatment:
You’ll be able to drive home after the treatment but should avoid direct sunlight and active skin care until your skin is fully healed. Comprehensive post care guidelines will be given to you, so you can refer to them at home.
How long will my fractional laser results last?
Optimal results will occur 3 to 6 months after your Co2 laser treatment, and new collagen will continue to form for up to a year. Skin tightening and clarity are noticeable immediately after your skin has fully healed. Mature skin types, scarring and stretchmarks may require a series of treatments spaced around one month apart. This will be determined and explained to you during your consultation.
How much does Co2 Laser resurfacing cost?
The cost of Co2 Laser depends upon the nature of your skin condition and the size of the area you’d like treated. This will be determined and explained to you during your consultation.
Am I suitable for fractional Co2 Laser?
You’re suitable for fractional Co2 Laser if you don’t have any of the following contra-indications:
- Tanned or darker skin types
- Melasma
- Cancerous lesions
- Request for a treatment with zero downtime
NB: If you’re prone to cold sores, anti-viral medication will be prescribed for pre and post care to prevent breakouts.
How is the Co2 Laser beneficial for tightening skin and rejuvenation?
Co2 Laser is the premium medical device available for tightening skin, reducing wrinkles, and stimulating collagen. It can be used around the eye area, and noticeably improves overall skin texture. Results vary, and more than one session may be recommended in your consultation for desired outcomes to be achieved.
How is the Co2 Laser beneficial for acne and surgical scarring?
Co2 Laser can be used to soften and flatten acne, surgical and other scarring using narrow beams and short pulses that stimulate new collagen and tissue regeneration. Residual erythema (redness) is common but will fade or can be reduced faster with our vascular laser (Excel V) if desired. Silicone gel is applied post laser to enhance healing. Results vary, and more than one session may be recommended in your consultation for desired outcomes to be achieved.
How is the Co2 Laser beneficial for stretchmarks?
Stretchmarks or striae are a form of scarring on the skin that can present with a white or red colour and some atrophy. Stretchmarks are best treated with different modalities depending on their appearance and history.
At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, we can utilise a vascular laser like our Excel V to target the redness in stretchmarks followed by a regeneration treatments such as, Co2 Laser, Morpheus8 RF microneedling, and SkinPen microneedling to assist in the reduction of stretch mark appearance.

What tissue can Co2 Laser treat?
The Co2 fully ablative laser treatments tend to be restricted to the face and, despite the downtime, still produce exceptionally good results. The reason it is so successful on facial skin is due to the greater density of sebaceous glands and other deep tissue structures, which allow healing from below. Other parts of the body do not have the same tissue structure as the face and will not heal as well from full ablation. The DOT laser technique allows healing to occur from the remaining intact skin between each DOT – this has enabled us to treat almost any skin on the body.
Very recent technological advancements in the Co2 DOT Laser (the V2LR) are now enabling us to treat mucousal surfaces, with the same exceptional, long-lasting results. The V2LR laser offers the unique “D Pulse” specifically designed for mucosal surfaces. It has a very brief (60 millionths of a second) high-energy pulse, which “drills” a very neat hole into the tissue to a depth of 1 – 1.5mm.
Then, there is a longer, lower energy pulse that heats deep down into the tissue and stimulates the formation of new collagen.
What is the best time of year to have Co2 laser treatment?
Technically speaking, Co2 laser treatment performed by a suitably trained and experienced practitioner can be performed all-year round. Fundamentally Co2 may be performed in Winter, Spring, Autumn (Fall) or Summer.
This being said, we do typically advise our patients to consider C02 laser resurfacing treatments in the cooler months of the year when sun exposure is less intense. Reason for this is that, as part of the downtime and recovery protocol post Co2 laser treatment, patients will need to stay out of the sun as much as possible. In cooler months of the year, avoiding sun exposure is easier to manage, as the sun does not shine for as many hours of the day comparably to summer time. Additionally, in the cooler winter months our patients can cover up with warmer clothing, thereby covering up treated areas such as the decolletage – all while continuing to wear SPF and hats in terms of sun protection.
