Natural results using wrinkle relaxers

Our Tailored Solutions

With age, both men and women develop lines and wrinkles on the face, perhaps most notably in the form of crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes, frown lines between the eyebrows (glabella) and worry lines across the forehead. Combined with a loss of volume, this can make us appear tired or older than we actually are. Thankfully, while ageing is inevitable, wrinkles don’t have to be.

Wrinkle relaxer injections are arguably the best-known, and certainly the most popular  cosmetic procedure in the world. These micro injections effectively smooth away wrinkles and lines to refresh and revitalise your appearance, with minimal discomfort and no downtime.

At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, our highly experienced injectors will tailor a treatment plan specific to your concerns and goals, ensuring you receive just the right amount of wrinkle relaxer to achieve a natural-looking appearance that’s aligned with your desired outcomes.

What are wrinkle relaxers?

Wrinkle relaxers, also called anti-wrinkle injections or muscle relaxants, which are cosmetic injectables that work by relaxing wrinkle-causing muscles and preventing dynamic wrinkles from forming, softening existing facial lines and helping to prevent the formation of new ones.

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial muscle movement. As the muscles move, the skin contracts and the collagen fibres in the dermis break. The body’s ability to restore these fibres and generate new collagen depletes as we age, and the wrinkles stay in place, even when the muscles are relaxed.

Wrinkle relaxers are used to temporarily prevent these muscles from contracting, significantly reducing wrinkles and fine lines for a fresher, more youthful appearance.

Muscle-relaxing injections can be used treat and enhance features on numerous areas:

  • Crow’s feet / smile lines around the eyes
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Lip lines
  • ‘Gummy’ smile reduction
  • Lip flip
  • Drooping mouth
  • Non-surgical brow lift effect by relaxing the muscles that drag down the brow
  • Jawline contouring / facial slimming
  • Chin dimpling
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Results

The effects of muscle-relaxing injections are not immediate, and gradually appear after three to four days as the muscles begin to relax. The maximum effect may not be seen for up to two weeks.

Wrinkles relaxers are gradually reabsorbed by your body over time, so repeat injections are needed about every three to four months in order to maintain results.

With continued use, the effects may start to last longer because the targeted muscles have ‘unlearned’ the response that originally contributed to the development of the lines.

Wrinkle relaxers decrease the repetitive muscular movement that causes lines and, in younger skin, can result in prevention of wrinkles forming. If there has been dermal atrophy (loss of deeper skin support) or significant sun damage then even complete relaxation of the muscle will not completely remove the wrinkle. For these lines a dermal filler may be added two weeks post treatment, or skin resurfacing (chemical peel or laser) can be considered to improve the quality and texture of your skin.

At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, we often combine wrinkle relaxing treatment with dermal filler injections for enhanced anti-ageing and rejuvenation results, depending on your individual goals and needs.

What to expect

What happens after my Doctor consultation?

Following your consultation with one of our Cosmetic Doctors, a few tiny injections are made just under your skin, reducing nerve stimulation to the targeted muscles.

The procedure usually takes about 10 minutes, but this can vary depending on the number of areas being treated. Because men tend to have larger and stronger muscles, they often require more injections to achieve the desired results.

We strive to make your injectable experience with us as comfortable as possible. The area to be treated is typically numbed with ice beforehand. Topical anaesthetic is not usually required as the needles are very fine and only a small volume of the product is needed, making the procedure virtually painless. For patients concerned with discomfort, topical anaesthetic is available.

In the hands of one of our skilled and experienced Doctor injectors, wrinkle relaxers have an excellent safety record and high patient satisfaction. Common side effects are generally restricted to minor temporary redness or bruising at the injection site.

Your Questions Answered

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Will wrinkle relaxers leave me expressionless?

No, only tiny amounts of relaxant are injected into very specific areas. The vast majority of facial muscles will not be affected at all and there are some muscles that should never be injected, which our doctors and nurses will explain during treatment. With precise placement, our experienced injectors can achieve a youthful appearance while maintaining your unique character.

Is there any downtime or recovery?

There is typically no downtime with anti-wrinkle injections. The average treatment session lasts about 10 minutes and you can return to your day-to-day activities straight away. We recommend that you avoid intense exercise for the remainder of the day, remain upright for the following 4-6 hours, and refrain from massaging the injected area or using active cosmeceuticals that evening. There may be some slight swelling and redness which should resolve over a few hours.

Are wrinkle relaxers safe?

Cosmetic treatment with wrinkle relaxers is safe in that there are no major or harmful side effects when performed by a skilled and experienced injector. Muscle-relaxing injections have been used medically for the past 30 years to treat a variety of medical conditions and there are numerous studies published on the efficacy and safety of wrinkle relaxer treatment.

How long will wrinkle relaxers last?

Typically anti-wrinkle injections will continue to prevent and reduce facial lines and wrinkles for around 3-4 months. After several treatments the effects of wrinkle relaxers may last longer in some areas.

Many patients adopt an ongoing wrinkle relaxer program as their primary anti-ageing tool. By retreating areas within 2 weeks of muscular action returning, it is possible to delay or prevent deep wrinkles from forming for quite some time.

Can I have wrinkle relaxer injections when I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

As with all non-essential medications, it should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

How much do wrinkle relaxers cost?

Your treatment cost will depend on the amount of wrinkle relaxer product needed and the number of areas to be treated. We will work with you during your consultation to devise a treatment that aligns with your budget and aesthetic goals.
