Frown lines, also known as glabellar lines or “the 11s” due to the two vertical wrinkles they produce, are the result of the muscles above and between the eyebrows contracting and tightening.
Repeated action of these muscles, alongside a decrease in skin elasticity and other age-related factors, can make these lines deepen and become permanently etched, causing you to look sad, angry or worried even when you’re not.
Frown lines are classified as dynamic wrinkles (as opposed to static wrinkles) because they are created by facial movements such as frowning, squinting or expressing anger or worry.
Injectable wrinkle relaxers are typically the first line of treatment for diminishing frown lines. The no-downtime procedure targets the muscles responsible for furrowing the brow and causing frown lines, temporarily blocking their action and relaxing away wrinkles.
Treatment for frown lines is commonly combined with wrinkle relaxers to improve the horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes, achieving a truly comprehensive upper face rejuvenation.

What to expect
Your Treatment Experience
You’ll first meet with our cosmetic doctor who will listen to your concerns and aesthetic outcomes and assess your facial anatomy. Usually you are able to proceed straight to your frown lines treatment.
The treatment itself only takes about 10 minutes. It involves a series of precisely placed injections of the wrinkle relaxing product into specific muscles above and below the brow.
We typically ice the area before injection, but there is little discomfort involved with wrinkle relaxer treatment. The needles used are superfine so pain is usually minimal; most of our patients don’t require any topical numbing cream.
As with any medical procedure, having an experienced practitioner perform your treatment is key to optimal results. In skilled hands, wrinkle relaxer treatment has minimal complications. Common side effects include redness, tenderness and some mild bruising at the injection sites, but these should resolve within a few days.
There is no downtime and you can typically go back to work and resume your everyday activities immediately after treatment.
At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine we pride ourselves on our noticeable yet natural-looking results, allowing you to still look like “you”, but a more refreshed and rejuvenated version.
