What is lip filler / lip augmentation?
Lip augmentation with dermal filler is one of our most popular procedures at Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine. It involves injecting the lips with small amounts of dermal filler to give them a fuller, more defined and shapelier appearance.
Lip fillers aren’t just for adding volume and projection – they can also be used to define and reshape the Cupid’s bow, accentuate the vermilion border (lip line), create symmetry and proportion, shorten the appearance of the philtrum (the groove that runs from the top of your lips to the base of your nose), lift the corners of your mouth, and soften lines around the lip area.
The dermal fillers we use for lip augmentation contain hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance found in the body that binds hydration and plumps skin. Injecting small amounts of filler into your lips immediately boosts volume in the treated area, improving the appearance of your lips by adding fullness, shape and structure.
Dermal fillers specifically suited for the lips are generally softer than fillers used for other areas of the face. Lip fillers are smooth and elastic in consistency, allowing for soft, pillowy volumisation with no visible lumps or bumps.
This procedure is minimally invasive, fast and convenient, with immediate results. There is minimal downtime involved and typically little discomfort during the procedure.
As with all cosmetic procedures, it’s important you choose an experienced injector who can tailor treatment specific to your goals and individual characteristics and requirements. All of our injectors at Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine are highly trained and skilled in lip filler treatment. We use advanced injection techniques combined with state of the art fillers to give you the results you desire – whether you’re after a subtle or more noticeable lip enhancement.

Results
The results of lip filler injections are immediately visible, although some temporary swelling and bruising should be expected.
Lip fillers aren’t permanent and dissolve naturally over time. Generally, lip fillers will last 5-7 months; this can be longer for some patients and shorter for others depending on factors such as the amount of filler used and how fast your body naturally resorbs the filler.
Dermal fillers tend to wear off faster in the lips than other areas of the face because of the constant movement of the lips and high blood supply to the area.
What to expect
Your Treatment Experience
Your appointment will start with a consultation with one of our cosmetic practitioners, who will assess the anatomy of your lips and face, explain the procedure, listen to your aesthetic goals and answer any questions you have.
During this time, your practitioner will tailor a treatment plan for you, advise on the type of filler best for your requirements and the expected amount of filler to be used.
After your initial consultation you can usually proceed straight to your treatment. Your practitioner will first numb the area with a topical anaesthetic cream before strategically and artfully injecting filler to specific parts of your lips. The filler is injected using a very fine needle, allowing precise treatment of the desired area.
The procedure itself is well tolerated and there should be minimal, if any, discomfort. Treatment times vary from 15 to 30 minutes.
There is no real downtime associated with lip fillers, though you can expect some swelling and/or bruising for a few days after treatment. In some cases, swelling may last for a week or two.
We recommend a follow-up appointment two weeks later when the dermal filler has settled and the swelling has subsided to ensure you achieve best possible results.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Will my lips look natural after lip filler?
When performed by an injector with a deep knowledge of facial anatomy and the intricacies of lip filler treatment, lip augmentation can look completely natural – your lips will appear fuller, plumper and in proportion with the rest of your facial features without looking “done”.
At Pavilion Cosmetic Medical, your practitioner will take the time to listen to your specific concerns and desires and tailor treatment to align with your expected results – whether a more conservative approach to restore lost volume and shape, or a more dramatic transformation to enhance your overall facial aesthetic.
How long do lip fillers last?
For most patients, temporary lip fillers last around 5-7 months. Because the lips are a high-movement area, filler generally tends to dissipate more quickly in the lips than in other areas of the face.
To maximise the results of your treatment, it’s important to follow the aftercare advice given by your practitioner, avoid excessive sun exposure and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Many of our patients choose to have a “top-up” between treatments to prolong the effects.
Are lip fillers safe?
Dermal fillers have been used in cosmetic medical treatments for many years and the good news is that complications are very rare. Of course, no procedure is completely risk free, and it’s important that you are aware of any potential complications, including unevenness, swelling or infection.
At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, our highly experienced injectors are overseen by our Medical Director Dr Gavin Scriven and we hold ourselves to the highest medical standards. During your consultation, we will explain the procedure in detail, including any possible risks and complications and expected outcomes.
Do lip fillers hurt?
Most dermal fillers have a local anaesthetic in their formulation to make them more comfortable during the injection. We also apply a topical numbing cream to your lips 30 minutes before treatment to numb the area.
Once numb, you may feel a pricking sensation and slight pressure, but discomfort is typically minimal and well tolerated.
How much does lip filler cost?
The cost of lip filler varies from patient to patient and depends on a number of factors, including the type and quantity of filler used. We pride ourselves on taking the time to fully understand your goals and budgets and will tailor a treatment plan for your individual requirements.
