Why brow thread lifting?
As we age and the inevitable effects of gravity take form, the brow area begins to droop and sag, wrinkles across the forehead become more noticeable and the eye area can appear hooded and prematurely aged.
Aesthetically, the brow area is especially influential to the appearance of the face as a whole. A ‘heavy’ or lowered brow can make us look angry, tired, sad and much older than our years.
A brow thread lift is a minimally invasive way to elevate, tighten and rejuvenate the brow area, achieving a younger and more ‘lifted’ appearance – without the downtime and disadvantages of a surgical brow lift.
It can also be used to elevate the “tails” of the eyebrows to create the popular “fox eyes” look.
At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, our Cosmetic Doctors are experienced in a variety of thread types to ensure the best possible brow thread lift outcomes. Thread types used at Pavilion include APTOS, MINT, HIKO, Silhouette Soft, Korean PDO Long and Short Mono Threads, and more. Read more about Cosmetic Threads.
Led by our experienced Medical Director Dr Gavin Scriven (@dr.gavscriv), our Senior Cosmetic Doctors will develop a tailored treatment plan and recommend the appropriate type of threads and optimal number of threads (and potentially other modalities) based on your individual circumstances, your concerns and our holistic medical assessment.
Key benefits
- Minimally invasive alternative to surgical brow lift
- Provides natural-looking lift to the brow area
- Helps smooth forehead wrinkles and frown lines (dependin on types of threads used)
- Can help reduce the appearance of hooded eyes
- Provides immediate results that continue to improve over time as collagen forms around the threads
- Minimal downtime
Results
A lifting effect can be seen immediately after a brow lift using threads. The results will continue to improve over the ensuing months as the threads are absorbed by the facial tissues and the body generates new collagen in their place to maintain the lifted and revitalised effects.
In general, optimal results can take between 6 weeks and 3 months to appear and you should expect your brow thread lift results to last up to 18 months.
What to expect
Consultation
You will first have a consultation with one of our experienced thread lifting Cosmetic Doctors. They will listen to your concerns, desired treatment outcomes and assess your facial anatomy and medical history to ensure a brow thread lift is right for you.
During this time, your doctor will explain in detail the procedure, the type of threads most suitable for your needs and the number of threads required, as well as answer any questions you have about the brow thread lift procedure.
Treatment
A brow thread lift is performed in our clinic, Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine. The procedure is well tolerated and feels similar to a standard dermal filler procedure using a micro-cannula. Local anaesthesia will be injected at the entry/exit points of the threads, so you should feel no pain and little discomfort. There are no incisions or sedation required.
The procedure itself involves inserting multiple threads just under the dermis that use tiny cogs or barbs to lift and support the underlying tissues. Sagging facial tissues are gently lifted at different vectors (directions) to elevate the brow area and enhance the natural contours of the upper face.
A brow thread lift takes around 60-90 minutes.
Pre-Treatment
In certain cases we recommend that patients to be treated with wrinkle relaxer to relax the downwards pull of the muscles around eyes (the obicularis Oculi muscles).
This ensures the thread lift is able to be maintained initially while collagen builds around the threads. Ongoing wrinkle relaxer to the same area is recommended at least every 4 months and will lead to better longer lasting results.
Post-Treatment
Immediately after treatment, you should expect some mild swelling, bruising and tenderness, all of which should dissipate over the next 3-5 days.
Overall downtime and recovery are significantly less than a surgical brow lift. Downtime after a thread lift is typically 2-7 days, depending on the extent of your procedure.
While less common, more serious side effects such as infection and nerve damage can occur –¬ which is why it’s crucial to see a qualified doctor experienced in thread lifts to help mitigate these risks.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Am I a good candidate for a brow thread lift?
In general, if you have mild to moderate ptosis (dropping) of the brow, are in good overall health and have realistic expectations of what a non-surgical brow lift can achieve, you could be an ideal candidate for brow thread lifting.
Are brow thread lift results immediate?
A thread lift has both immediate and long-lasting results. The immediate effect is seen as the threads anchor to the tissues under your skin. The secondary lift is due to new collagen production, which forms around each thread as your body gradually dissolves the threads. This new collagen formation helps to maintain the lifting effect for up to 2 years, while also improving skin quality.
What’s the difference between a brow lift with threads or brow lift with injectables?
Brow lift using muscle relaxant injectables targets and reduces the ability of the muscles in the brow area to contract and frown, whereas a brow lift using threads lifts the sagging tissues. While both can achieve excellent results, these non-surgical brow lift alternatives have different mechanisms of action. Another point of difference is that a brow thread lift will typically last significantly longer than a brow lift with muscle relaxant.
How much does a brow thread lift cost?
The cost of a brow thread lift will depend on the type of thread used and the amount of threads needed. We will always work with you to ensure the best course of treatment for your aesthetic goals and budget.
